Kitsap Humane Soceity: Senior Pet Adoption Assistance Grant Report
How did this grant help your organization and the pets in your care?
Funding is being used to support the adoption of Kit Kat, a 10-year-old diabetic domestic short hair cat, and provide one year’s worth of insulin to help encourage a community member to adopt Kit Kat without taking on the burden of this medical cost. Kitsap Humane Society has purchased a six-month supply to care for Kit Kat while he is in our care, and this insulin will be provided to the adopter. We are continuing to seek a home for Kit Kat.
How many pets did this grant help?
This grant will help one senior cat, Kit Kat, who is diabetic, with his adoption and provide one full year's supply of insulin for his adopter.
Please provide a story of one or more specific pets this grant helped.
Kit Kat is a 10-year-old tabby who has been in the care of the shelter for a year as of March 26. This adorable boy is an absolute lovebug and just wants to snuggle up next to you and nap! A drooler, too, Kit Kat always greets with the softest, most gentle meow – the sweetest thing to come home to! Kit Kat loves pets and attention and is so easygoing.
He has been diagnosed with diabetes and requires daily insulin injections. His insulin costs about $50 a month, and KHS will provide a full year’s supply of insulin (thanks to a grant from the Petfinder Foundation!) and syringes upon adoption to help get adopters started. He is not on a prescription diet, and his diabetes is effectively managed with a diet of Friskies pate wet food, an affordable product that can be found in any pet store.
Kit Kat just celebrated his one-year anniversary with Kitsap Humane Society. It took six months to get his diabetes under control and make sure he was ready for adoption. KHS promoted him on our website and through social media, and we are extremely grateful for the funding from the Petfinder Foundation to provide a year’s worth of insulin for his adopter.
With his one-year anniversary drawing near, KHS decided to do a special campaign and adoption event for Kit Kat. This event just took place on March 26. Although Kit Kat did not find his new forever home, our shelter team will continue the momentum from his adoption event as we seek a forever home for this snuggly boy.
