Humane Society of Polk County, Inc.: KONG Toys Grant Report

How did this grant help your organization and the pets in your care?

The products of the KONG grant were used in the enrichment of our dogs and puppies. With the more durable toys, the dogs were able to chew and play with them a lot longer than the usual toys our facility gets through donations. Itf was nice to receive the variety that we did because potential adoptive parents had options to see which ones the dogs liked best while they were getting to know them better.

It helped us by giving us more durable, longer-lasting toys for the dogs to play with. With the added enrichment, the dogs were mentally and physically stimulated.

How many pets did this grant help?

All of the dogs in facility and at one point a litter of 12 puppies. Right around 20 dogs total.

Please provide a story of one or more specific pets this grant helped.

Aggie is a 2-year-old pit bull who came in when her owner was arrested. She was always a very sweet and playful dog. The biggest reason that people were passing her over was because when you walked by her kennel, every single toy she had would be chewed to a million pieces. People did not want a destructive dog in their home. But with the KONG toys, she could be her playful self without complete destruction throughout her entire kennel. She has now happily been adopted by a great family.
