Abandoned Animal Rescue: KONG Toys Grant Report
How did this grant help your organization and the pets in your care?
The interactive Kong toys are used for the dogs at AAR in two ways: The treat-filled Kong toys keep dogs content overnight, and the play Kong toys are great for exercise and fun.
Because all pets remain at AAR until they are adopted, having safe toys for overnight entertainment is important in relieving shelter stress for the long-term dogs. Also, Kong toys save AAR money; they are long-lasting and easy to sterilize for re-use.

Please provide a story of one or more specific pets this grant helped.
Matilda (D2021231) is a pit-bull mix who arrived at AAR heartworm-positive. This meant she had to remain quiet for days while undergoing treatment. Having Kong toys in her kennel was crucial in keeping her entertained.
Now that she is heartworm-free, she is enthusiastically enjoying the Kong toys during play-yard time twice a day! She has been with us for 16 weeks and is still waiting to be adopted, but her enthusiastic wiggle and engaging smile should hopefully find her a home soon. You can meet Matilda here.
