How did this grant help your organization and the pets in your care?

The $45 was applied to our veterinary account at Kenai Veterinary Hospital.

It helped us treat a dog named Buddy. He was shot in the rear leg -- from behind. Buddy is a very sweet neutered male, about 2 years old, a Dalmatian mix, who would not hurt a fly. The owner was unable to afford the surgery. Neighbors called us and we convinced the owner to sign him over to AELAS.
His right rear leg was broken in addition to having a small bullet lodged inside the bone. The surgery went well and he now has a long pin and wire that will hold his bone together until it is fully healed in about four months. He is recovering in our kitchen with three of our old resident cats. The vet bill to date is $1,320. When he is all healed, we will adopt him out for a $150 donation.

Buddy was shot by someone while he was walking to his home. He was in his own yard. The shooter was never identified. Buddy’s owner could not afford to take Buddy to the vet. Concerned neighbors contacted us and we drove four hours to Homer and back to go and help him. When we arrived we saw Buddy sitting next to his porch, wagging his tail. That is when we found out that Buddy had been shot six days before anyone called us! We immediately called our vet and rushed him back to Kenai for treatment.

The surgery was a complete success. Buddy now has a long pin and wire holding his right rear leg together. He should be completely healed in four months.
