Animal Ark Rescue: KONG Toys Grant Report

How did this grant help your organization and the pets in your care?

We received a supply of Kongs for our dogs to enjoy. Boredom and socialization are two key issue for shelter dogs. With the Kongs given to Ark, we were able to address both those issues.

The dogs played happily with the Kongs for hours! And our volunteers worked with some of our shyer dogs by putting peanut butter in the Kongs and playing with them.

How many pets did this grant help?

Since these are almost indestructible, they have been used over and over again, so more than 100 dogs, easily, have benefited from this grant.

Jack is a small, shy dog who lost his home through no fault of his own. He came to us scared and tended to shy away from other dogs and visitors alike. This type of behavior will often prevent a dog from being adopted. On a whim, one of the other volunteers gave him a Kong, and the transformation was remarkable. He now lets anyone pet him, but keeps “his” toy close at hand.
