Happy Hills Animal Foundation, Inc.: Emergency Medical Grant Report
How did this grant help your organization and the pets in your care?
This Emergency Medical Grant helped our organization to provide urgently needed veterinary care for a standard poodle named Claude. Claude came into our care in April 2022 along with seven other standard poodles from a severe-neglect abuse case in our county (Randolph County, N.C.). The previous owner has been charged with eight counts of felony animal cruelty and the case is currently being heard in Randolph County Superior Court.

Please provide a story of one or more specific pets this grant helped.
Claude, a standard poodle, came into our care from a severe neglect case involving a total of eight standard poodles.
Claude was extremely emaciated, anemic, and full of parasites, along with suffering from a horrific injury to his left hind leg and foot. His foot had literally been chewed off, including the bones.
Claude was suffering with extreme nerve pain and it was determined by our veterinarian that his best option was amputation of the leg up to his hip.
Thanks to the Petfinder Foundation Emergency Medical Grant, Claude was able to receive this lifesaving surgical treatment. The surgery has been completed and Claude is currently undergoing rehabilitation and learning to enjoy a healthy and pain-free life. He will be ready for adoption within the next month once his surgical amputation has fully healed.
