PAWS of Grays Harbor: Kia Pet Adoption Grant Report

How did this grant help your organization and the pets in your care?

We used our grant to provide special adoption fee discounts during November and December 2022. Our special promotions included: Purr Pals and Doggy Duos 2-for-1, free adoptions for Veterans on Veteran's Day, a friends and family discount, service animal discount, and Black Cat Friday (50% discount on black cats).

Twenty-seven cats and eight dogs found furever homes through these special promotions. For a small shelter such as ours, this grant made a significant impact on our ability to find homes for our pets. Our original goal was to increase adoptions by at least 5%. We shattered that expectation and ended up having two of our highest adoption months in our nearly 50-year history. December 2022 will be our second highest adoption month of all time.

Cats Rafikki and Simba arrived at our shelter in August when their human entered a long-term medical facility due to health issues.

This very bonded pair leaned towards the shy side and hadn’t gotten a lot of interest. Those who did show interest would only be interested in one or the other, not both.

With our Purr Pal 2-for-1 special, these sweet boys finally found their furever home after 15 weeks at our shelter.
