Proud Animal Lovers Shelter: Kia Pet Adoption Grant Report

How did this grant help your organization and the pets in your care?

By offering certain dogs and cats at no adoption fee (with approved application), we were able to find loving homes for nine dogs and one cat. These were all ones who had been at our shelter at least seven months with no interest from adopters. One had been there almost two years. Because of these adoptions, we were able to accept more dogs from the city pound at our no-kill facility, thereby preventing them from being euthanized.

Bandit (first photo) is a German shepherd mix who had been found in the country and then relinquished to the city pound, where he was scheduled to be euthanized. We transferred him to our no-kill facility in October 2021. However, despite being a great dog, he was continually passed over for adoption.

After we advertised him at no fee with an approved application, Bandit finally found his forever home after almost two years at the shelter. His new person has written us, “He is doing fantastic. He is sweet as can be. We are both very happy.”

Chase (second photo) is a pointer mix who originally came to our shelter from the city pound, where he was scheduled to be euthanized. After several months at our shelter, he was adopted by a family. Unfortunately, they returned him after a month due to him breaking out of his crate while they were away during the day and destroying the furniture.

Chase was back at our shelter for another eight months until, thanks to the grant, he found his forever home. They have told us that Chase does great with their toddler and is totally housebroken. They also discovered he doesn’t tolerate being crated, so he has the run of the house while they are away, with no problems. They love Chase, and we are so happy for him.

Tuff (third photo), a pit bull mix, and Wolf (fourth photo), a German shepherd mix, showed up at our door on a very cold day last December. They are both great dogs, but received no interest from adopters until we advertised them at no fee with approved application.

Although they weren’t adopted together, they did find their forever homes within one day of each other, and both went to homes with sibling dogs. Tuff’s new person wrote, “He is doing great. We call him Scooby. Inty and he are best friends and love traveling to rodeos.”

And from Wolf’s new family, we received this note: “He is amazing. He’s such a loving caring guy. He loves his 17-year-old sister, Azura, and 3-year-old cat brother, Neo. He’s adapted much better than expected. His very first camp trip was last weekend. Also, his new name is Kai.”

Another of our dogs, Cline (fifth photo), a pit bull mix, came to our shelter from the city pound as a puppy, one of a litter of three. The other two puppies were soon adopted, but for some reason, Cline remained. He is a playful, happy dog, but was just overlooked by adopters. Finally, after eight months at our shelter, and thanks to the Petfinder Foundation grant, he found his own forever home. We hear he is doing very well and is much-loved.

These are just a few of the success stories thanks to the Petfinder Foundation Kia grant. We are so happy for the nine dogs and one cat who were helped by the grant. We still have hopes that a few more of our overlooked dogs will also find their forever homes, as we continue to promote them at no adoption fee, thanks to the Petfinder Foundation.
