You’ll help twice as many senior, special-needs horses such as Windsong (above) when you donate to us through Global Giving from Oct. 14-Nov. 12.
For those 30 days, Animal Planet’s R.O.A.R. is matching donations to the Petfinder Foundation dollar-for-dollar (learn more about the campaign here). That means a loving retirement for senior horses such as Windsong, who was taken in by Doxy’s Horse Recovery, Inc. in Afton, N.Y. Volunteer Carolyn J. Miller tells us how our grant helped the group care for 17 horses, including Windsong:
“Doxy’s used $578 for dental and eye exams and treatment as indicated. The remaining $422 was used to purchase hay.
“We have two horses who exhibited eye conditions that were examined with recommendations provided by the veterinarian to enhance the quality of life and promote the safety of these equines. Six horses were examined by an equine dentist to ensure proper and comfortable grinding to promote optimal nutrition.
“The funds provided through the grant enabled us to provide our adoptable horses with services that are surely important to their lives but not always able to be provided for financially. Having the ‘gift’ of hay for our 17 adoptable horses was a plus, and benefits each horse.
“Windsong was a senior, 25-year-old mare who came to us in poor condition. Through improved nutrition, dental and good daily care, she blossomed into a handsome senior and was adopted on Sept. 7 to a wonderful, loving home.”
