Gateway Pet Guardians: Kia Pet Adoption Grant Report
How did this grant help your organization and the pets in your care?
The Kia Pet Adoption Grant waived the adoption fees of 10 long-stay adult dogs with Gateway Pet Guardians. Out of the 10 dogs sponsored, nine have now found loving homes thanks to the grant!
We had several foster parents who were considering adopting their foster pets and, when we offered to waive the fee thanks to the grant, several of the foster parents adopted their foster pets!
Below are the names of the pets who were adopted thanks to the grant. The only dog not adopted yet, Cabbage, will still have his adoption fee sponsored in hopes of getting him adopted, too!

Please provide a story of one or more specific pets this grant helped.
Meatball came into our care in February 2022 when his owner was incarcerated. He is an 11-year-old American bulldog.
He was in our care for eight months and was having a really hard time getting adopted due to his age. Once we were able to waive his adoption fee thanks to Kia and the Petfinder Foundation, he started getting adoption applications.
He was adopted on Nov. 3, 2022. Here’s his story, in the words of his foster mom:
“Well, Meatball went home to his new family tonight. So many emotions for our big foster baby that we had for almost nine months.
“I’m so proud of us and him. He was broken and sad — and crabby. Then he got neutered, got into a routine, received unconditional love, and gave us the same. He needed patience. He needed to show off all his tricks.
“He now has 8-year-old twin girls and a doting mama to love him and to whom he can show what a good boy he is.”
