How did this grant help your organization and the pets in your care?

The Wahl shampoo grant, valued at $385.95, was used to give a "clean start" to the dogs that were brought to our shelter by animal enforcement. Before the dogs were spayed/neutered, they were given a bath to give their coat and skin a healthy new start.

Many of the animals that are brought to our shelter are suffering from skin infections, cuts, scrapes, wounds, and poor grooming. With the grant from Wahl, we were able to use a high quality shampoo on each of the dogs that were suffering from one of these problems. We firmly believe that an overall healthy animal starts with a clean coat and skin. We are always amazed by dogs like Khleo (photos attached) who are shy and sad at first and blossom into energetic, happy dogs when their outside feels good again.

Khleo was a stray brought in by animal enforcement. She was a fancy dog who did not get fancy care. Her coat was long, tangled, matted and full of dirt. The mats were so close to her skin that she had sores forming that oozed and bled even with gentle brushing. Further inspection revealed that her tiny feet were balls of matted fur that disguised terrible, long, toenails that were also causing her pain. It was decided that the best plan for Khleo was a shave! The volunteers carefully worked to shave off the matted, soiled hair with Wahl clippers. Once the hair was removed, her toenails were manicured. Finally, Khleo was treated to a warm, soothing bath with Wahl shampoo. We rely on the gentleness and balance of shampoo designed for a dog’s skin, like the products that we received from the grant. Once Khleo was towel dried, her true personality shone through and in just a short time she was able to find a new, loving family to call her own.
