It was a disaster-relief grant that paid for repairs to the frozen pipes to help get our water running and our heaters working again.

It is vital that we have fresh water and heat for our pets to live in the winter months. This grant helped us make repairs to keep the pipes from freezing up again.

During the polar vortex the pipes to the water and the heating system froze up, causing the heating system to stop working and the water to the buildings not to work. Hope had to call out a repairman as we have 10 puppies in the affected building. The repairmen reran the pipes to the heating system and insulated the water pipes on the outside of the buildings to keep them from freezing again. During this time, Hope had to board 18 dogs because their building was not usable.

Pictured is Diddy, who has been adopted. From his Petfinder listing: “Diddy is an 11-month-old male boxer-shepherd mix. He is about 40 lbs. and is full-grown. Diddy likes everyone and everything. He is an active young man who can also snuggle with the best of the snugglers. He was abandoned during the polar vortex and left in the cold to fend for himself. A nice person gave him shelter until he could come into our adoption program. Diddy is absolutely GREAT with other dogs. Seriously, we use him to help socialize new rescues because he makes friends with everyone! He is a good boy.”
