LASSI/Oceana County Animal Shelter: Bar Dog Operation Grant Report

How did this grant help your organization and the pets in your care?

We can't thank the Petfinder Foundation enough for the award of $250 to purchase needed flea and tick medications for the canines and felines at the shelter. We are currently over capacity with dogs (we currently have 13 at the shelter, but some aren't ready for adoption yet so they are not on Petfinder). Thankfully, we have been adopting out cats quickly.

The shelter is in a small, rural, poor county in Michigan and the county doesn't provide funding for items such as flea and tick medication for shelter animals, so volunteers have to fundraise or apply for grants to cover these costs. Your grant was a blessing to these animals.

Please provide a story of one or more specific pets this grant helped.

Lena, a 1-year-old mixed breed, was surrendered to the shelter by her owner about two weeks ago. She came in with fleas and a few ticks, so the meds were especially beneficial to her. She is a playful pup but has lots of energy, so many people were overlooking her when looking for a canine companion.

I was just notified two days ago that she is out on a trial adoption, so we are hopeful that she will be adopted soon.

You can meet Lena here.
