CritterhouseKC: Kia Pet Adoption Grant Report
How did this grant help your organization and the pets in your care?
The Kia Pet Adoption Grant provided the opportunity for CritterhouseKC to remove one of the barriers associated with pet adoption: the fees. These funds had an immediate and lasting impact on matching adopters with pets. The funding allowed CritterhouseKC to save more pets from [open-intake] shelters and provide the care and compassion needed to impact our local community.

Lark was born in our program to a mama dog who was just a baby herself. She met her forever family before she was old enough to be spayed, so the family took her home with a foster-to-adopt agreement.
Per the agreement, they returned her for her spay appointment and she was transported to and from the clinic for surgery. Once she out of surgery, we tried to reach the family to come pick her up and no one responded.
We placed her for the night at a foster and the next day the family responded that the foster dad had lost his job and they did not feel like they could pay the adoption fee and were concerned about how they would care for her.
We were able to cover the adoption fee with this grant and, after sending them home with a few weeks of supplies, we were able to give this family a whole bunch of happiness during this bleak time.
