Hill Country Humane Society: Kia Pet Adoption Grant Report
How did this grant help your organization and the pets in your care?
We are a small shelter in a rural area. The vast majority of our animals come in unaltered and we do not have a vet on site. With this grant, we have been able to spay or neuter ALL of the adult cats in our care as of Dec, 15, 2022.
When our cats are fixed, we can send them to Pet Supermarket, where they are adopted very quickly. When our cats are spayed and neutered, adoption prices are less at the shelter, because we require a $50 deposit that is refunded when adopters use our spay/neuter voucher.
How many pets did this grant help?
Eight, but we have more scheduled. This should cover more than 20 animals!
Please provide a story of one or more specific pets this grant helped.
Java and Bobba are two extremely fearful cats who came into our shelter. With the funds provided by this grant, we were able to get them fixed! Because of that, they have both been adopted, together, and are now living their best lives as happy barn cats.
They have their own room with controlled temperatures, cat trees, toys, and, most importantly, love. The adopter has reported seeing them playing with the toys. They are starting to warm up to her with food! This has inspired us to continue fixing and placing cats who would not do great in a typical home.
