Regina's Rescue: Kia Pet Adoption Grant Report
How did this grant help your organization and the pets in your care?
The Kia Pet Adoption grant helped Regina's Rescue provide free adoptions in our rural community. This grant removed costs associated with adoption and helped our rescue open up kennels so that we can make a greater impact by pulling more animals from local [open-intake] shelters.

Meet Duke, a big redbone hunting dog who had been at Regina’s Rescue since he was a puppy. Regina’s Rescue used Kia grant funds to get Duke fully vetted. We had some online application interest from possible adopters, but no one ever came to see him. When adopters came to see other dogs, people would say, “man, he’s big,” and walk on to pick out other dogs.
We posted Duke on Petfinder and Sara Jane noticed him. Her family was in the midst of one of the most heart-wrenching situations ever, but knew during this time that they had to accept it, grieve, and open their hearts again.
Sara said, “We rescued a dog about 10 years ago and she became my son’s service dog, as he is autistic. His service dog was diagnosed with cancer and was in an elderly state, so we made the difficult decision to put her down to end her suffering. My son is really missing her so I am trying to help him by getting him a new companion he can love.”
They had just picked up their beloved dog’s ashes when they contacted us to meet Duke. It was a very difficult day, but they made an appointment for the next day to meet Duke.
It was the best decision ever! Sara Jane’s son has a new companion who is showering him with love, attention, and slobbery kisses. It was an instant connection!
Thank you, Kia and the Petfinder Foundation, for making this happen.
