The Humane Society of Southwest Missouri: COVID-19 Operation Grant Report
How did this grant help your organization and the pets in your care?
During this challenging time of COVID-19, we're thrilled that the Petfinder Foundation helped us with the medical expenses for two animals who desperately needed surgery that we weren't able to do in-house.
Not only are we seeing an increase in animals coming in during the pandemic, many are in need of expensive surgeries, including Lucca (a black cat) and Boyd (a heeler-mix dog). With revenue streams all but halted, and expenses increasing, we were thrilled to be able to give Lucca and Boyd the care they needed thanks to the Petfinder Foundation.

Please provide a story of one or more specific pets this grant helped.
Boyd, a 2-year-old blue heeler mix, was very painful and limping when he arrived at the shelter. Thanks to an FHO surgery, Boyd is now happy, pain-free and ADOPTED! The first and second photos show Boyd in his new home.
Lucca is a black, young adult cat who’d had a botched declaw which damaged her front foot tendons. As a result of the pain, Lucca was aggressive and quick to bite, rendering her almost unadoptable. Thanks to a tendonectomy surgery, Lucca was already less painful and more friendly after only a week (as you can see from the pictures of her playing on an employee’s keyboard)! Lucca is now ready for a forever home. You can meet Lucca here.
