This grant enabled the shelter to provide quality shelter and care for animals under our care by enabling us to purchase enough food to feed every pet in the shelter and those in foster care for an entire month.

Izzie is a gorgeous blue tick hound who was brought to us by county Animal Control and never reclaimed. She had been bred multiple times and was high heartworm-positive. Izzie had a large worm burden as well as some heart irregularities. We had her spayed and then began her heartworm treatment.

Izzie was at the shelter for 19 days before she met her forever family. They had visited us several times, since they lived nearby, but had not yet found their perfect match. The normally calm, quiet, and staid Izzie greeted them with that famous bluetick bay and made sure that they noticed her!

It was love at first sight all the way around, but they were hesitant since she was undergoing heartworm treatment. The family fostered her while she was receiving her treatment. While she was in foster care, we provided all medical care, food, and anything else needed to care for her, as we do with all our animals in foster care. It soon became clear that she was where she was supposed to be, so Izzie was reclassified as “foster to adopt.”

Miss Izzie is now in the recovery stage of her heartworm treatment and is doing fantastic. Her family is wonderful and utterly in love with her. She has gone from a life of neglect and overbreeding to relaxing on the couch in her forever home without a care in the world. We could not ask for a better outcome for this unwanted hunting dog.
