Fearless Kitty Rescue: Kia Pet Adoption Grant Report

How did this grant help your organization and the pets in your care?

Thanks to the grant from Kia and the Petfinder Foundation, we were able to offer reduced adoption fees. We chose to focus on cats over one year of age and also adopters wanting to adopt two cats/kittens (or one of each!). Adoption fees for cats over the age of one year were waived and, for adopters wanting to adopt two cats, the adoption fee was waived for the second cat.

We were thrilled to be able to offer this to adopters. Not only do we want to focus on older cats, but we also wanted to encourage the adoption of pairs of cats to improve the adjustment period into a new home. Additionally, the fact that we were able to offer this during the summer, when we have so many cats up for adoption, was helpful for us to be able to find homes for more cats and have the space to take in more cats in need as well!

Please provide a story of one or more specific pets this grant helped.

There are a couple of wonderful stories that came out of the Kia Pet Adoption Grant. The first involved Spaghetti and Nayla.

Both kitties were a little older, Spaghetti (first and second photos) at 9 months old and Nayla (third and fourth photos) just over 2 years. These sweet girls were both returned to the rescue because they were too high-energy for their previous situations; one was even described as “too needy.”

Their current adopter, though, saw this as the opportunity to provide both girls a loving home, particularly when their similar personalities could support one another. They were adopted together!

The second story involves Buttercup and Brittle. A man was walking by our facility and his wife saw Buttercup in the window and immediately wanted to bring her home. The man said “absolutely not” and hurried her along.

The next day, he came in and told our counselors about this, saying that he was actually hoping to surprise his wife for her birthday! He went in to meet Buttercup, but was also greeted by friendly Brittle (another all-black cat).

When we told him about our adoption special, he couldn’t resist! He brought home not just one but two kittens to his wife. Happy birthday!
