Warren County Animal Ark: Bar Dog Operation Grant Report

How did this grant help your organization and the pets in your care?

We received the Bar Dog Operation Grant to purchase 20 tablets of Bravecto to help with external parasites and various skin issues. Having Bravecto available to use on our shelter dogs has been great in controlling ticks and fleas, not only on the dogs that enter, but also to prevent reinfestation of our other shelter residents. We also use this product for skin issues such as sarcoptic and demodectic mange. It is wonderful that we can begin their treatment to get them on the road to a happy, healthier life.

Please provide a story of one or more specific pets this grant helped.

Gordon (first four photos) was brought in as a stray and infested with fleas to the point that he was losing his fur. We were able to give him one of the Bravectos from the grant, which eliminated the fleas. Now Gordon has a shiny, new coat. Gordon is still waiting for his furever home.

You can meet Gordon here.

Another dog we were able to help was Willow. Willow was diagnosed with demodectic mange and was almost bald from head to tail (fifth photo). This sweet girl didn’t stand a chance at finding a new home without help to treat her condition.

Our veterinarian stated that she needed to receive Bravecto. Since we do have a limited budget for treating sick animals, this grant allowed us to treat her without any cost to the shelter and prevented a needless euthanasia. Willow is on the road to recovery and will soon be up for adoption as a happy, healthy girl (sixth photo).
