START Rescue: Bar Dog Operation Grant Report
How did this grant help your organization and the pets in your care?
START Rescue cares for approximately 15-20 dogs at any given time while they wait to be adopted. Most of them are large dogs who are expensive to feed. Receiving this grant allowed us to provide nutritious food for approximately 10 dogs for a month, and also gave us the opportunity to use funds we would normally use for food to pay for veterinary care and supplements like probiotics. We are very grateful.

Moose (first and second photos) was surrendered to a shelter in central California by his family after seven years. They could no longer provide for his care.
He spent months in the shelter, and the day before he was to be euthanized for space, a rescue in Canada agreed to take him if START Rescue could transport him. Sadly, that rescue changed their minds, so Moose became a START dog.
He has been in our care for a few months and is happy, healthy, and makes friends everywhere he goes. We will find him his perfect home, and in the meantime, he is enjoying delicious and nutritious meals. Just look at how handsome this older gent is! He is aging backwards in our care!
Ty (photos 3-5) is START Rescue’s longest resident in boarding. We rescued him from a high-[intake] shelter with only minutes to spare. He was a volunteer favorite, and we can see why. He showers everyone with kisses and is always the happiest one around. Look at his smile! Ty came to us at least 20 lbs. underweight, but is strong and healthy now!
