Serendipittys Sanctuary of Hope: Bar Dog Operation Grant Report
How did this grant help your organization and the pets in your care?
We used the grant funds to purchase vaccines, preventatives, and dewormer for 120 animals in our care. We purchased a grand total of $5,569 in preventatives and dewormer from Merck Animal Health. The grant was used to offset the cost of these vaccines, preventatives, and dewormer.
We provide preventatives and dewormer to all shelter animals (age/weight appropriate) upon intake/transfer, during foster, and/or prior to adoption as outlined per our intake/transfer/foster/adopter agreements and protocols. In the case of puppies and kittens, we provide them a series of vaccines and deworming, as outlined per our intake/transfer/foster/adopter treatments, agreements, and protocols, through the date of adoption. These vaccines, preventatives, and dewormers are of utmost importance in our life-saving rescue efforts.

Please provide a story of one or more specific pets this grant helped.
Penny and Chunk (now named Oreo) were transferred to us after being seized in a neglect/abandonment case. They had been found very malnourished, dehydrated, and under-developed in a locked vehicle trunk, several days to a week after their owner was incarcerated.
The housing unit where the puppies were found specifically states “no pit bull-type dogs” allowed on the premises. Penny and Chunk had to go, and desperately needed a safe place to get medical care, heal, learn. and grow. Serendipittys Sanctuary of Hope welcomed both puppies into our foster2adopt/Trained for Life (T4L) programs.
Both dogs received the urgent medical they desperately needed upon intake: They were spayed and neutered and received all three of their needed puppy boosters, their 1-year rabies vaccines, age-appropriate preventatives, dewormer, and microchips. Chunk had surgery for his herniated umbilical cord while in foster care.
We watched them heal and learn to trust, love, grow, and build confidence. We showed them how beautiful the world can be and taught them basic obedience and that mistakes and accidents happen but we are all always learning and growing.
We finalized their adoption (together) and sent them off to their forever home with their new mom, where they are continuing to thrive and living their best lives.
Serendipittys Sanctuary of Hope owes much thanks to our special-needs sanctuary animals, the true magic of our life-saving hard work and amazing rescue transformations.
Thank you, Petfinder Foundation, for the 2023 Bar Dog Operation Grant for supporting our hard work and life-saving mission for puppies like Penny and Chunk.
