Belleville Area Humane Society: Cat Enrichment Grant Report

How did this grant help your organization and the pets in your care?

We used this grant to purchase two cleanable, safe cat towers made of Kuranda beds. This gave extra enrichment and happiness to the cats in our care. We ended up finding less-expensive versions of the towers than the ones in our grant application, so we were able to purchase two for $488 and had enough money left over for some hidey boxes.

Of course, we still use whatever boxes come to our campus (Amazon boxes, vaccine boxes, etc.) to save money when possible. But the hidey boxes we purchase ensure that we never run out for scared cats in our care. The hidey boxes go home with the kitty when they are adopted so they have a safe, familiar space in their new home.

Clover (first two photos) came to Belleville Area Humane Society (BAHS) when his senior owner went into hospice care.

Clover is 13 years old and very sad and confused. Thanks to the Petfinder Foundation’s kind award, we were able to give Clover a comfy spot on a safe, clean Kuranda bed. He now has a view of the window and the sunshine on his fur as he waits for his forever home. We are sure he will be adopted soon. You can meet Clover here.

Additionally, brown tabby Baron Von Katz (third and fourth photos) was stuck in Animal Control for three months. We gave him a hidey box and let him decompress for two days. This little bit of privacy and kindness made the difference. He became sweet and snuggly and was adopted in 15 days.
