Louisville Metro Animal Services: KONG Toys Grant Report
How did this grant help your organization and the pets in your care?
This grant provided enrichment opportunities for the dogs in our adoption facility and shelter while they waited for their forever homes. Volunteers came to the shelter to stuff and freeze the KONGS.
This grant was more important than ever this year because our shelter has been at capacity the entire year. That meant a lot of dogs needed enrichment to help keep them happy and their brains active.
The fact that KONGS can be sterilized and reused is so helpful. Their durability means one KONG can provide enrichment over and over for many dogs.
How many pets did this grant help?
500
Please provide a story of one or more specific pets this grant helped.
Justus (first and second photos) spent six long months at the shelter after his owner abandoned him. He hated the shelter, and enrichment treats were one of the things that helped him de-stress.
He loved a KONG filled with delicious treats. The time and energy it took Justus to finish a KONG gave his mind a break from his long days at the shelter.
Luckily, he found his forever home and is a happy boy.
