Stray Animal Midway Shelter: Cat Enrichment Grant Report
How did this grant help your organization and the pets in your care?
We were able to purchase two new cat trees, 50 scratchers for cat cages, six Kuranda cat beds, and five Feliway plug-in diffusers.
The trees will be great additions to our cat-colony rooms and will allow the cats to climb, scratch, and reach other shelves in the room, therefore providing a lot of enrichment in these rooms.
The scratch pads were put up in every cat's cage, and the cats have been loving them! We were also able to send them with the cats to offsite events so the cats always have a scratch pad with them.
The Feliway diffusers were plugged in in every room where we house cats to calm them in the stressful shelter environment. The Kuranda beds were put in every cat cage to ensure they have higher surfaces to rest upon as well to hide under.
How many pets did this grant help?
This grant will help around 100 cats that come through the shelter during the remainder of this year.
Please provide a story of one or more specific pets this grant helped.
Fred was returned to our shelter because he had a tough time adjusting to his owner’s move, and he was terrified to be back. His favorite place to be is up in a cat tree.
With the grant, we purchased some Feliway diffusers and more cat trees. Since we introduced Feliway to Fred’s environment, we’ve seen changes in his behavior. He’s been so much calmer, more relaxed, and less anxious. He leans into pets and asks for more!
It’s truly heartwarming to see him slowly coming out of his shell. He loves the new trees that he can climb all over and sleep in. Fred is still available for adoption!
