How did this grant help your organization and the pets in your care?

It was used to weatherize our outdoor kennels, make repairs to our drafty bay doors, and purchase two generators for power outage events.

The weatherizing of the kennels helped us care for the 79-dog hoarding situation that arrived right before the freeze hit. The kennel door repair and generators will be in place for future extreme weather.

Kade was the most unsocialized of the 79 dogs who arrived from a single-wide trailer home. These dogs arrived at our shelter right before the winter storm of 2021 hit. Kade was with us for 96 days as we worked to get him social enough for adoption. Just last week, Kade was transferred to a rescue in Wisconsin that will continue his socialization by putting him into foster care. We worried so much about Kade and whether we had done enough for him on his journey. Two days after his arrival in Wisconsin, the rescue contacted us to tell us that he was already settled in and accepting love and petting. If we hadn’t been able to keep Kade safe during the winter storm of 2021, his outcome wouldn’t have been good. Instead, he is working to start his new life in Wisconsin.
