How did this grant help your organization and the pets in your care?
The $2,000 in Petfinder Foundation disaster funding was a lifesaving grant as it helped us rescue animals who were the four-legged victims of Hurricane Ida with many extraordinary health issues, specifically eye, ear, and skin issues (as well as orthopedic issues for two of them).
This meant we were able to rescue 22 more dogs and cats in dire need. In New Orleans and the surrounding area, including St. John and Terrebonne Parishes, the municipal shelters were closed. (St. John has still not reopened.) Many of the pets rescued had been living in terrible conditions since the storm and were in need of medical care.
The Petfinder Foundation stood up for the victims of Hurricane Ida through this grant.

Perhaps the most heartbreaking rescue was that of Albus and Severus, who had been abandoned beside a busy road along a swamp and surrounded by miles of sugarcane fields. Their future looked bleak: They were destined to be either eaten by alligators, bitten by a poisonous snake, or hit by a car. They apparently were there through the hurricane and were only rescued three weeks later.
They were emaciated and had skin, ear, and eye issues. Albus had been hit by a car. He would need surgery for one leg, but the other leg had nerve damage. The dogs are healed now and doing great. Severus has a home and family.
Albus has been a trooper. He is available for adoption. One leg is healed and he uses the other like a peg leg, but he is just loving life! None of this would have been possible without the generous grant from the Petfinder Foundation.
