Humane Indiana: Dog Enrichment Grant Report
How did this grant help your organization and the pets in your care?
This grant purchased dog-enrichment supplies for adoptable pets at Humane Indiana's shelter. These are used in the kennels while dogs wait to find their forever homes, and allow dogs to engage in natural behaviors.
Dogs are able to work for food and treats, to reduce boredom, to be rewarded for good behavior, and to be at their very best when people come to find their new family members. It reduces problem behavior in the shelter so dogs can get adopted more quickly and frees up space for us to help additional dogs.

Wellington is an active dog who needed a lot of attention and engagement to be at his best. Humane Indiana staff were able to use slow feeders and treats to keep Wellington busy and working for his food and rewards, and to help him learn that when people approach, good things can happen.
Thanks to the Petfinder Foundation, Wellington now has a home! His family shared: “Just wanted to let you know Wellington is doing great and we love him so much! He loves car rides and playing Frisbee at the park. He gets along great with other dogs and learns tricks very quickly. He loves belly rubs and is super affectionate and sweet. Adopting him was the best choice I’ve ever made!”
