Homeward Bound Animal Rescue: Dog Enrichment Grant Report
How did this grant help your organization and the pets in your care?
We were able to utilize this grant to build heated whelping boxes for the pregnant dogs we rescue. We were able to have them built out of condensed plastic instead of wood, which is safer for the dogs if they chew them and it is much easier to sanitize. Each whelping box cost $1,000-1,500 because of the heated flooring used in them.
How many pets did this grant help?
200
Please provide a story of one or more specific pets this grant helped.
Lillyn, who was shot while pregnant, was able to give birth and deliver her puppies in one of these whelping boxes. She then had a safe and clean environment to raise her babies.
Lillyn was a lucky girl because she was adopted by our group’s veterinarian. Six months after she completes her heartworm treatment, she will be seeing an orthopedic surgeon to remove parts of the bullet and repair her scapula so she can regain use of her leg.
It was obvious that this shot was supposed to be a kill shot. She is a very lucky little girl.
