A Second Chance Animal Shelter: Dog Enrichment Grant Report
How did this grant help your organization and the pets in your care?
This grant allowed us to buy several enrichment toys, puzzles, lick mats, etc., to provide mental and physical stimulation to all the dogs in our care.
We are severely overcrowded right now, so this grant allowed us to purchase items for the dogs that can provide mental stimulation while they are supervised in their pens, as well as additional stimulation when they are out in our play yards.
How many pets did this grant help?
All of the dogs in our care, which is currently about 100 dogs and puppies
Please provide a story of one or more specific pets this grant helped.
Several of our dogs have benefited from having slow-feeder meals during feeding time. Becca (first photo) is a very high-energy dog who has been with us since she was about 6 months old. We gave Becca a slow-feeder bowl for mealtime, which has helped her tremendously (second photo). We were able to purchase several slow-feeder bowls with the grant money that we received.
Chase (third and fourth photos) is another dog who has benefited from this grant. He loves toys and going to the playpen to play with squeaky toys. This grant allowed us to buy puzzle toys, lick mats, and squeaky toys to take to the playpen for dogs like Chase.
Neither pet has been adopted yet, but we are hopeful they will find their homes soon!
