Somerset-Pulaski County Humane Society is committed to helping animals the best we can, one at a time. Unexpected veterinary costs put a strain on our finances, and S-PCHS applied to the Petfinder Foundation for a grant to help with Stella. We are very appreciative of the quick response in awarding S-PCHS the amount needed to cover her surgery and vet stay.

Stella, a beautiful long-haired Russian blue kitty, was missing from her home for several days. When she managed to return home, she came dragging a badly mangled rear leg. The injuries indicated the leg had been caught in some sort of motor.

Her owners rushed her to the vet, where an exam showed that the leg had to be removed, meaning Stella would be a tripod kitty afterwards and therefore must always live indoors. That wasn’t possible due to the owners’ allergies, so Stella was surrendered to the Humane Society.

The surgery was totally successful and Stella, like all animals with an amputation, recovered fast and well, adjusting like a champ.

Stella has since been adopted and lives in Silver Springs, Maryland.

Here is a recent update from her adopter, Jill: “Just wanted to share that Stella is settling in really well. She’s quite the cuddler and is getting around with no problem, running up and down stairs and jumping up on the couch and bed. We love her. Thanks for bringing her into our lives!”
