Second Chance Animal Services Inc: Dog Field Trip/Short-Term Fostering Grant Report

How did this grant help your organization and the pets in your care?

This grant offers a welcome reprieve for some of our dogs to get out of the shelter and into the big world! They gain exposure to the public with their "Adopt Me" bandanas and have an enriching experience with a volunteer who walks and plays with them away from the shelter. Often a car ride is involved, which just adds to the fun!

Dog's Day Out field trips also create another way for volunteers to help our organization, and many are so grateful to be able to interact with the dogs. The pets benefit from the social interaction with a volunteer, the public exposure, and the fresh air and exercise. Some animals are overwhelmed by shelter noises and hustle and bustle, so the quiet and freedom afforded during a field trip can bring them out of their shell and relieve stress.

We find that our volunteers and our pets equally look forward to the time together!

Titan (first photo) is a gorgeous pit bull terrier mix who would love a forever home. He’s a bit of a ball of energy, but staff also say, “He’s just a big goober!” and they all enjoy him.

Oreo (second photo) is a gorgeous, playful black and white mixed-breed pup. He needs a family that is ready to take on a puppy and be patient in training him to grow into a great companion. You can meet Oreo here.

Mack (third photo) is a large Bernese mountain dog with special needs. Both his vision and hearing are impaired, which he compensates for with the use of his mouth to communicate. You can meet Mack here.
