League for Animal Welfare: Dog Field Trip/Short-Term Fostering Grant Report
How did this grant help your organization and the pets in your care?
The grant is helping us kick off our "Field Trips with Furballs" program, an offsite enrichment opportunity for people to "check out" a dog for a hike, a walk, running errands, or a trip to the ice cream shop. It's a way to engage new volunteers and supporters without any rigorous volunteer orientation as a hurdle to get to know our shelter and our dogs. The grant is helping us pay for supplies such as leashes, water bowls, collars, and "Adopt Me" vests.
How many pets did this grant help?

Please provide a story of one or more specific pets this grant helped.
All of our adoptable dogs are eligible for this program, so lots of them have been adopted! One recent human participant is particularly enamored with the dog she took out, Biggie Smalls (first and second photos).
Though the woman can’t adopt, she has been heavily marketing him to her friends since she met him on Sunday. That is the kind of exposure we hope for in this program: to engage new animal lovers in creative and accessible ways, and have them be conduits to better forms of marketing and even larger networks!
