Rockstar Rescue: Emergency Medical Grant Report

This grant provided the necessary surgeries -- amputation, femoral head ostectomy (FHO), and fracture repair, plus neuter -- for our little guy Roadie who was severely injured along a highway.

Please provide a story of one or more specific pets this grant helped.

Roadie was found along the I10 near Casa Grande. He had been hit by a car and was unable to move. He’d suffered severe breaks to both his hind limbs, resulting in the amputation of one and an FHO and fracture repair of the other.

It was a looong recovery, throughout which I personally fostered him. During that time, I renamed him “Scoots” because he scooted around the house until he was able to walk again.

In this time, I began to notice he had suffered more than just breaks and physical trauma. He displayed a behavior seen with concussed neurological trauma, leading me to believe he needed just the right home to deal with, understand, and accept his condition. And so I have chosen to adopt Scoots myself!
