How did this grant help your organization and the pets in your care?

We are so incredibly grateful for receiving the Kia Pet Adoption Grant. This grant helped us facilitate the adoption of nine animals by offering adopters a 50% reduction in adoption fees.

Five young dogs and four adult dogs were able to find their forever homes thanks to the Kia Pet Adoption Grant. All of the animals adopted using this grant had been in our care for 60-120 days. Sadly, Michigan has experienced a decrease in average adoptions and pets have been waiting a little longer to get adopted. We are so thankful for this grant for helping some of our long-term residents find their forever homes, too, because they deserved it.

Juice and Piney came to our rescue as tiny 5- to 6-week-old puppies who had been dumped with their four littermates. All of their littermates were adopted, but sadly people kept cancelling or not showing up for their meet-and-greets.

Months and months went on without anyone coming to meet them, which broke our hearts. But the “boys,” as we called them, were completely unfazed and as happy as could be.

During their extended stay with our rescue, they became incredibly bonded to each other and we opted to try to find them a home together. We knew that would be no small task, but we figured we’d try!

Just one week after receiving the Kia Pet Adoption Grant and posting Juice and Piney on social media — this time advertising their reduced adoption fees (and, of course, their cuteness) — the boys had a meet-and-greet with the most wonderful family that decided to adopt both of them. This was made more financially possible for them thanks to the Kia Pet Adoption Grant.

So the boys got a home — together!
