Beare Garden Plantation Animal Rescue: Kia Pet Adoption Grant Report
How did this grant help your organization and the pets in your care?
The Petfinder Foundation Kia Pet Adoption Grant helped us place 14 cats in homes. In addition to helping four senior citizens in our area adopt loving companions, we had enough funds remaining to subsidize adoption fees for a bonded pair and several special-needs kitties.
This summer, adoptions had been lagging behind previous years. We have now reduced the adoption fee for all of our cats by $25 to help incentivize adoptions. The more quickly we can find adopters for the cats in our care, the more lives we can save.

Mova, a 3-year-old dilute tortie, was surrendered to Beare Garden Animal Rescue due to a family member’s allergies. She was in our care for a week before she met her new mom, Virginia.
Virginia, a 71-year-old retiree in Snow Hill, NC, was feeling lonesome for a kitty companion. She was grieving the loss of her 19-year-old cat who had recently passed away.
When she saw Mova’s picture on Petfinder, she decided to make a trip to our shelter to meet Mova in person. From the moment they met, it was a love match. Mova went right to Virginia and acted like she had known Virginia all her life.
