Unchained Love, Inc.: KONG Toys Grant Report
How did this grant help your organization and the pets in your care?
The Kong toys are used by our adoptable dogs to break up their kennel time and indoor/outdoor playtime.
We at Unchained Love want to give our deepest thank you to the Petfinder Foundation for awarding us the Kong grant. Prior to receiving this grant, our adoptable dogs would chew their water bowls, food bowls and bedding while in their kennels. By filling the Kongs with peanut butter and freezing them, we can now give our adoptable dogs safe things to chew on. Having the Kongs in their kennels has stopped them from barking for attention and chewing on the kennels. During playtime, the dogs use the Kong toys to socialize more and we have noticed their teeth are cleaner. Overall, this grant has enriched their kennel and play time by giving them alternative things to chew on and keep themselves occupied.

Please provide a story of one or more specific pets this grant helped.
Baby was a 5-month-old puppy that a breeder was unable to sell, so she was surrendered to a shelter. She came to Unchained Love scared, unsocialized and, we assume, abused, because she would cower when a hand was moved near her. As we worked with Baby to acclimate her to life in a home, she opened up quickly after she chose a pink Kong from the Kong grant items. Baby carries her pink Kong as a security blanket and they’re inseparable, as shown in her Petfinder profile picture (first photo). Meet Baby: www.petfinder.com/petdetail/36977758
