The Animal Shelter of Texas County: KONG Toys Grant Report
How did this grant help your organization and the pets in your care?
We used this product to help with stimulation for the shelter animals. They get so bored in kennels that this enables us to help to keep them calmer and entertained. The animals love flipping them around in order to get the treats.
It helped us by enabling us to entertain the animals and create a stimulating environment for them. The Kongs really enable us to stimulate the animals and aid greatly with "kennel craziness."
How many pets did this grant help?
45+ but we sanitize them and use with other animals.
Please provide a story of one or more specific pets this grant helped.
Scarlette is a 3-year-old Pit Bull female whom we were called about the Friday after Thanksgiving 2015. Scarlette was very pregnant, and was chained to a dog house at the bottom of a hill. It had rained for five days straight and the water came straight down the hill and into her dog house. She could not take shelter in her dog house or anywhere else; her chain was just too short. It was discovered that Scarlette’s owner was in jail and had been for two weeks; the neighbors had been feeding her. We went and got her and brought her to TASTC. Three days later Scarlette had nine healthy, huge puppies.
Scarlette was such a good momma to the babies. They were all adopted out, but Scarlette still sits here waiting for her forever home. The Kong toys quickly became Scarlette’s favorite part of the day. She gets lots of out-of-kennel time because she is so loving, but she takes her Kong with her wherever she goes. Scarlette will find a forever home soon, we hope. She will take her Kong with her.
