Bedford County Animal Control: P.L.A.Y. Pet Beds Grant Report

How did this grant help your organization and the pets in your care?

With us being an animal-control facility, we have different animals in and out of our facility. The P.L.A.Y. pet beds have been a HUGE asset to us in providing many animals with a soft, warm place to lay down. Most of our animals come in as strays, so there is no telling what all they have had to lie down on.

The P.L.A.Y. beds are very easy to maintain and our animals love them! Each of our kennels has its own bed for each animal. The public sees each of the animals who are up for adoption and they see that each of them has a soft bed to lie on.

Please provide a story of one or more specific pets this grant helped.

We had a dog whom we rescued from a very bad hoarding case. When we got her, she was just a few months old. Once she was of age, she was spayed and microchipped and placed up for adoption. The day finally came and she was adopted! We were very excited and thought she was going to a great home. We were wrong.

Fast forward to a year later: She came to us as a stray. She had been dumped. We knew it was her because she was chipped! We tried to reach the person who adopted her, and that got us nowhere.

After her hold, she went back up for adoption. With the breed she was, a pitty, she was overlooked for 106 days. On the 107th day, she finally went to her forever home!

Each and every night that she was here with us, she slept comfortably on her P.L.A.Y pet bed. She loved her bed! When she was adopted, it went with her. Even in her new home, she still sleeps with her bed. It was something that she knew was hers, something new and fresh and that meant the world to her.

She is the white pitty in the photos. Her name is Venus and if she could thank you herself, she would. Her bed is her favorite thing!
