The Sato Project: P.L.A.Y. Pet Beds Grant Report
How did this grant help your organization and the pets in your care?
The Petfinder Foundation's P.L.A.Y Pet Beds grant gave our satos comfy beds to snooze in. After these dogs' rough beginnings as strays on the streets of Puerto Rico, we can only hope all those who come into our care can be met with the comfort they deserve. For many of our dogs, they are experiencing care and love for the first time, and this will continue in their forever homes.
Immediately after our team placed the beds down, our satos Pancho, Liza, and Pascal fell asleep. Our senior, Buddy, even brought his bone toy to cuddle on his new bed. And our new mum, Luna, felt safe and sound.
We're able to use the Petfinder Foundation's P.L.A.Y Pet Beds for countless satos who come into our program and stay at Sanctuary by The Sato Project before flying to their forever homes.

Please provide a story of one or more specific pets this grant helped.
Buddy (first and second photos) was rescued in Puerto Rico last December after he was seen walking on the side of the road appearing to be injured. Our founder and president, Chrissy, found him and lured him with wet dog food. He wobbled over with a wagging tail and we brought him directly to our animal clinic. He tested positive for heartworm and his x-rays showed that he had complete fractures in both of his hind legs, suggesting he had been run over by a car.
Another issue was that his liver-enzyme levels were high. We placed him on an IV for a week, and then oral medication until they were back to normal. He is now going through our extensive heartworm treatment as we figure out the next steps for his hind legs.
At the end of February, Buddy saw Dr. Mongil at CEVET, Veterinarian Specialists Center, for a physical evaluation. After his x-rays were examined, he pointed out that the muscles in Buddy’s hind legs had severely deteriorated. He believed surgery could worsen the situation, and because it was a huge risk for him to go under anesthesia, he suggested we consider other options.
Now, Buddy has a wheelchair! And even better, he has many comfy beds to sleep on when he needs to rest his legs. We are so glad he can experience comfort while going through his heartworm treatment and waiting for his forever family! Thank you, Petfinder Foundation!
