Two: It helped get Boone and Ella adopted.

Please provide a story of one or more specific pets this grant helped.

Boone (8) and Ella (10) were a bonded senior pair surrendered to NHS when their owner’s health took an unfortunate turn and she was no longer able to care for the pair any longer.

While Boone came to us with a fairly clean bill of health, Ella had several health issues that would follow her for the rest of her life. She had a collapsed trachea, which causes a cough, and requires her to take medication that she will need forever. She had also been diagnosed with high blood pressure and some arthritis.

Ella took her medications without fuss every day and Boone never interfered with this process; he just monitored at a close distance.

Boone and Ella had been together in our shelter since October 2022. While we operate in an area where smaller dogs tend to be adopted quickly, the fact that they were both seniors and had to be adopted together left potential adopters feeling like they could require more financially than a single, younger dog.

Boone and Ella were adopted together and moved to Savannah, GA. Unfortunately, Boone passed away from old age and the family was not able to keep Ella.

However, on a positive note, Ella came back to NHS and was adopted out again to a local family that was happy to have her join their pack.

The grant funds were issued to Ella’s new family, as the first one did not have Boone and Ella for very long to begin with. Thank you so much for giving NHS this grant to give Boone and Ella the extra attention they deserved in their final years.
