Our organization does not refuse any dog because of medical needs. This past year we had Gretchen with heartworm disease (she is still undergoing treatment), Maya with incontinence issues, Wanda with severe skin and neurological issues, and, recently, a mom and her seven puppies.

Gretchen came to us from a local Massachusetts shelter where she had been for three years. We never expected her to be such a wonderful dog after being in seclusion in less-than-desirable conditions for such a long period of time. Much to our surprise, she is a happy-go-lucky girl. However, once vetting was complete, heartworm disease was discovered. We have no idea how long she was suffering from this, as no prevention or vaccines were given to her during her three-year shelter stay.
