We used this grant to pay for a portion of medical care for Yeti the cat. He was hit by a car in January, causing extensive damage to his jaw.

On a snowy January morning this year, Yeti the cat was trying to cross a street and was hit by a car. Luckily, a good Samaritan saw him get hit and Yeti was taken to the Iowa State College of Veterinary Medicine for emergency treatment. After a day, he was stabilized and released to Boone Area Humane Society.

Yeti needed extensive work to his mouth and jaw, as his head took most of the blow when he was hit by the car. Due to some brain swelling, he was blind and his bottom jaw was cracked and needed to be wired back together. Yeti’s left TMJ joint was out of place.

Family Pet Veterinary Center stepped up and agreed to do the surgery for a reduced rate. Yeti had the jaw wired together and the TMJ joint was repaired. His mouth was also wired partially shut to allow the TMJ to heal, so he also received a feeding tube.

Yeti spent two months in foster care recovering from his surgery. After a few weeks, he had the feeding tube removed and his eyesight came back. Yeti remained patient and sweet throughout all of his treatments. Everyone who met this boy fell in love with him, including his foster mom, who ended up adopting Yeti.

Thanks to the support of the community and the grant from the Petfinder Foundation, we were able to cover over $5,000 in medical expenses. Yeti is now fully recovered and living his best life, and enjoying all the treats and food his family will give him.
