Darlington County Humane Society: Kia Pet Adoption Grant Report
How did this grant help your organization and the pets in your care?
We were awarded a grant in the amount of $6,500 to help cover adoption costs. We began offering sponsored adoptions via the KIA grant on April 1. The response was tremendous.
If we compare our adoption numbers for both cats and dogs from April 1-June 24 2022 compared to the same timeframe in 2021, our numbers are way up! THANK YOU!
Folks were definitely incentivized to bring our pets home and with many folks more closely watching their dollars, your grant came at a great time.
How many pets did this grant help?
The grant covered the adoption costs of 44 dogs (our fee is $100) and 32 cats (our fee is $65).
Please provide a story of one or more specific pets this grant helped.
One of our staff members, Thomas, adopted Kane, a grey pit bull (first photo and with Thomas in the second photo).
Kane was super, super shy and overwhelmed when he arrived as an owner-surrender. Thomas, who works in managing the kennel area, made a point of working with Kane each and every day to gain his trust.
The two of them developed a wonderful friendship and, when the adoptions sponsored via the Kia grant became available, Thomas took advantage of it.
Like many shelters, our workers are operating on a tight budget, so having this fee covered really meant a lot to Thomas, and also to Kane!
