How did this grant help your organization and the pets in your care?

The Petfinder Foundation Kia Pet Adoption Grant that was awarded to our shelter helped us to provide extremely reduced adoption fees to our adopters and community members. It also helped to alleviate overcrowding from the high intake of animals we are currently experiencing.

Our shelter just began a renovation project, so this was the perfect time to lower our prices and increase our adoptions! With the current economic conditions, the grant provided our adopters with an affordable adoption cost and incentive for them to bring home a new companion. We adopted more than 60 pets in a week with the help the adoption grant!

Randy (first photo) was a stray who was brought into our care in April (he spent 60 days in our care!). He knew his basic commands and was good with other dogs and kiddos.

Knowing Randy’s kindness towards children, we elected him to be the doggie ambassador during our Read-to-a-Dog program for the last month he was in our care. Randy would visit local elementary schools and the students would read to him to strengthen their reading skills (second and third photos). He became quite the celebrity around campus and the kiddos loved him!

One such kiddo, named Anton, fell in love with Randy and went home to his parents and would not stop talking about him. After a couple of weeks, his parents agreed, and Randy was adopted by the family and the boy who fell in love at school (fourth photo).

Canelo and Nola, a bonded pair of adult cats, were surrendered to our care in early May. They had lived their past three years with each other and needed to be adopted into a loving home that could take both of them.

It is currently kitten season, so our adult cats are overlooked. A sweet older couple came in looking for an adult cat. They meet Canelo and Nola and fell in love (fifth photo). They knew they needed and wanted to adopt both cats so they could join them on the couch. Canelo and Nola were adopted together and will remain together for the rest of their lives.

Bentley was a stray kitten brought into our care by way of a cardboard box. He was too little to be adopted, so he left for foster care with a family for a couple of weeks until he was old enough to get adopted. It was love at first site for this adopter (sixth photo), who will love Bentley for the rest of his life.
