Langely Animal Protection Society: Kia Pet Adoption Grant Report
How did this grant help your organization and the pets in your care?
At LAPS, we truly believe that everyone who is dedicated to providing love and care to a pet shouldn't have financial barriers to adoption. The generous $1,500 grant from Kia was used to help families who have been approved for pet adoption, but needed help to afford the associated adoption fees.
To date, we have used $1,000, which has helped four families adopt new pets. We had anticipated providing 10 families with $150 discounts each, but decided the impact was bigger if the discounts were $250 per family.

Please provide a story of one or more specific pets this grant helped.
Mimosa (first photo) was brought to LAPS as a stray and it didn’t take long to figure out that she was pregnant. She gave birth while staying at one of our foster homes and then was spayed and put up for adoption, which didn’t take long at all. Her kittens also found their forever homes once they were old enough to be adopted.
Beau (second photo) is an Anatolian shepherd — a very big boy who came to LAPS in June of 2022. He was the sweetest, sloppiest dog; he was full of love, but had some behavioral issues. With the help of our trainer, Beau had all of his great qualities, and was also a well-behaved dog. It took a while because of his size, but Beau was adopted in November 2022 to a nice family (third photo).
Sweetie (fourth photo) came into LAPS as a stray and no guardian ever came for her. She had a very hard time in the shelter; despite the love and comfort, she was not doing well and so a foster came forward for her just before Christmas. After a couple of days of hiding, the food, treats, and encouragement brought her right out of her shell. Through her time at the foster home, she came out of her shell quite a bit and was adopted earlier this year.
Gina (fifth photo) was a 1.5-year-old Lab mix who came to LAPS when her family could no longer keep her. Gina was a smart and loyal dog who loved affection and cuddles. She was quite a shy doggie and because of this, the shelter was very intimidating for her. Luckily she was able to find her forever home earlier this year.
