Humane Society of Warren County: Kia Pet Adoption Grant Report

How did this grant help your organization and the pets in your care?

Our goal was to adopt out 10 cats and 10 dogs at the one-day Kia Pet Adoption Event hosted at the shelter. We held the event on Friday, May 27, 2022, with fee-reduced adoptions: cats for just $25 and dogs for $50.

Friday was a very dreary day, with thunderstorms and flash flooding in our area, so we decided to extend the the event through Memorial Day weekend to give families the opportunity to safely visit the shelter.

In total, 14 cats and 4 dogs were adopted over the weekend. While that number is not quite as many as we'd hoped for, we are always happy for positive outcomes, and that's 18 more animals sleeping in new homes with their very own families!!

Our kennels are still quite full and we plan to host several pop-up adoption specials over the next few months. A huge THANK YOU from all of us at HSWC to everyone at the Petfinder Foundation for helping us make this possible!

Please provide a story of one or more specific pets this grant helped.

Our bestest boy Leo was one of the 18 adopted over the weekend, and we are thrilled for him. Leo is a 5-year-old Labrador retriever who was surrendered to us after his owner could no longer afford his care.

He came in with a nasty ear infection and skin infection. After a round of antibiotics and steroids, medicated baths, a healthy diet, and some TLC, he was on the hunt for a new home. He was paired with a wonderful family and he adored the children (first photo); it makes our hearts happy!

Katara was also adopted and had been with us since early February after we transferred her and several others in from a neighboring shelter; they were part of a hoarding case.

When Katara arrived, she was shut-down, hiding, and fearful. Her coat was in terrible condition, with hair loss from a flea infestation on top of several different parasites.

After proper treatment and a lot of love and patience, she finally started to come around. Katara quickly became a staff favorite and gave the best hugs (second photo)!
