West Valley Humane Society: Grant Report

How did this grant help your organization and the pets in your care?

This $500 grant award was used to cover the cost of adoption fees for adult cats. This allowed 25 adult cats to find their forever homes for a $5 adoption fee while allowing the shelter to help pay for the cost of spay/neuter surgeries and vaccines prior to adoption.

During kitten season, adult cats have historically had the longest length of stay at the shelter and had difficulty getting adopted. This grant allowed us to adopt out adult cats for a $5 adoption fee, allowing them to find their new homes more quickly while also helping us to pay for the medical care associated with each cat.

Please provide a story of one or more specific pets this grant helped.

Alfredo is a beautiful senior Turkish Van cat who was found wandering the streets of Caldwell, Idaho, with a badly broken leg. Thankfully, he was picked up by a good Samaritan and brought to the shelter in order to receive much-needed care.

Unfortunately, his leg/hip was badly broken and ultimately needed to be amputated. Despite this injury and the recovery needed to get him back on his feet, Alfredo remained an affectionate, loving and charming cat who was eager to find his forever home.

This grant allowed him to be adopted for a discounted adoption fee and into a new home where he could recover away from the shelter environment. Thankfully, he was adopted with 10 days of being brought in and has recovered well in his new home.
