Humane Society of Southern Wisconsin: Kia Pet Adoption Grant Report
How did this grant help your organization and the pets in your care?
We initially planned to use the Kia adoption grant for reduced cat and dog adoption fees. We planned to reduce cat adoption fees by $50 and dog adoption fees by $100.
Around the time we received the grant, we took in 30 cats from a hoarding case. We were near capacity for cats at that point. We ended up using our entire grant on reduced cat-adoption fees. We were able to offer $50 off adoption fees for 40 cats.
How many pets did this grant help?
40 cats
Please provide a story of one or more specific pets this grant helped.
One of the cats adopted using the Kia adoption grant was Harper.
Harper was from a hoarding case in which 30 cats were rescued. She was one of our longer-staying residents and fairly shut down.
Harper’s new owner saw her photo online and came in to meet her because she had recently lost her Siamese cat.
Even though Harper started off their meet-and-greet by hissing, it was love at first sight for her new owner. She decided she needed Harper in her family and adopted her that day.
Harper is now settling into her new home, where she’s sure to be spoiled for many years to come.
