The Arizona Humane Society (AHS) used this grant to waive the adoption fees for 17 pets who were ready to be adopted and find their forever homes. Throughout this year, AHS had faced capacity issues due to a significant increase of 25.7% in animal intake compared to the previous year. The support provided by this grant expedited the adoption process for these 17 homeless pets, creating room for an additional 17 pets in need of our lifesaving care.

Davey Jones, a stray 11-month-old boxer mix, arrived at the Arizona Humane Society (AHS) in a state of severe malnutrition, shyness, and both physical and mental distress. However, his journey took a positive turn when he was rescued by AHS. Despite his initial reluctance to walk on a leash and his hesitancy towards humans due to his limited previous interactions, Davey Jones gradually transformed during his time at the shelter.
Though Davey Jones lacked extensive socialization and training, he received special care and attention from the AHS Behavior Team. His eager willingness to learn, coupled with the use of enticing jerky treats during training sessions, facilitated his rapid progress. Soon enough, he blossomed into an ideal companion, showcasing his newfound skills and endearing nature.
After spending 18 days at the shelter without finding a suitable forever home, Davey Jones was granted a waived adoption fee through the generosity of the Petfinder Foundation’s Kia Pet Adoption Grant. In a heartwarming turn of events, it only took a few days for Davey Jones to capture the hearts of a loving family; he especially bonded with the children. The connection was instant, and Davey Jones found himself embraced by a family that would provide him with the permanent and caring home he deserved.
In a story that truly reflects the concept of love at first sight, Davey Jones now enjoys a life of happiness alongside his forever family. This heartwarming transformation and successful adoption journey were made possible by the combined efforts of the Petfinder Foundation and Kia, underscoring their commitment to enhancing the lives of animals and uniting them with loving families.
